They say that soccer is “the most important of all the unimportant things.” It’s equally loved by sports fans and sports bettors. One of the reasons why bettors love it is that there are plenty of betting options in every soccer game.

Assuming that you have an account at one of the top Canadian sportsbooks below, you can choose from a variety of soccer betting markets. If you don’t know what some of those mean, you’re at the right place. We’re now going to dive deep into the subject of soccer betting types, starting with the most popular of them all – the 1X2 market.

1X2 Betting in Soccer

Literally every sportsbook that offers real money soccer betting online has this market in the offer. Also known as the match-winner or the moneyline, the 1X2 market requires you to guess the match outcome.   Unlike sports like tennis or volleyball, soccer has three potential outcomes in every match – Team 1, Team 2, and a draw. Yours is simply to pick one of those three.

Draw No Bet

If you’re not a big fan of three-way bets, such as the 1X2, there’s one betting market you might like. It’s the draw no bet (DNB) market we’re talking about.  The name of the bet tells the whole story – a draw is not an option. You bet on the team that you think is going to win. If a draw happens, you’re not going to lose. Instead, you’re going to get your stake back.  Now that we’ve mentioned the good side of this bet, it’s time to tell you about its bad side. The odds on draw no bet are not as good as those for 1X2.

Double Chance

This market is similar to the draw no bet market in the sense that you don’t lose if your team plays a draw. The difference is that with the double chance, you don’t get a stake refund if a draw happens.   What this practically means is that you shouldn’t care much whether your team wins or a draw happens. In both cases, you win an equal amount of money.  The problem is that the odds are much shorter with double chance than with DNB.

Goals Over/Under

Here’s a betting market that allows you not to care about which team is going to win. The only thing that should concern you is how many goals the game will see.  How this market works is that the sportsbook comes up with a goal margin in the form of a whole number and a half, e.g., 2.5 goals. Yours is to pick whether there are going to be more or fewer goals than that.  In this particular example, the “under” bet is the winning one if the match finishes with no more than two goals in total. If three or more goals are scored, the winning bet is the “over 2.5 goals” bet.  Apart from betting O/U, some sportsbooks also offer betting on an exact number of goals.

Correct Score

In 2001, the Australia national soccer team beat American Samoa by 31-0, which is still the record for the biggest win in an international game. Most soccer matches, though, don’t see such dominant victories.  Instead, the most common soccer scores are 0-0, 1-1, 2-0, 2-1. Keep this in mind if you’re planning to bet on the correct score, which is one of the most popular soccer betting types.  Not only is this market fun to bet on, but it’s also potentially very profitable as the betting odds are pretty good. Unfortunately, guessing the correct score is far from easy.

Player to Score

In the season 2011-12, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi scored a total of 50 goals in 37 league games. That’s more than a goal per game on average. Those who backed Messi to score won a lot of money that year.  You can do the same, as the “player to score” market always comes with attractive odds. If you have the skills, knowledge, and luck, you might be able to guess the goal-scorer.

Special Soccer Bets

Did you know you can bet on the number of corners in a soccer game? Some sportsbooks offer these kinds of bets. In fact, they don’t stop at corner betting, many of them also offer betting on the number of yellow cards, red cards, total fouls, and so on.  Obviously, to stand a chance of winning with these sorts of bets, you need to know the rules of soccer. This is why you ought to read our soccer betting guide!

Soccer Outrights

Another very popular soccer bet is the outright. Instead of betting on a single match, you get to bet on the entire championship. A good example of this bet is the one in which you need to predict the winner of the next Premier League season.  In addition to betting on team performances, you can also bet on players. Who is going to be the top scorer at the World Cup is just one example of player outrights you can find in online sportsbooks.

Live Soccer Betting

Most of the soccer bet types that are available before the game are also available during the game. Of course, this is only true if the sportsbook you’ve picked offers live betting.  The good news is that most top-rated sportsbooks do. This is just one more reason why you ought to bet at the sportsbooks recommended by truenorthcasinos.com.
